We are excited to offer Makaton Training to candidates!

Makaton is extensively used within childcare & education to support learning and is an invaluable skill to have! You will learn how and why the Makaton Language Programme is used, how to easily implement Makaton into a setting & learn over 50 signs and symbols.

The course is free for Five Education employees. 

Before your first day working with Five, we will need you to complete our free online training course for child protection and safeguarding in schools. This training has been written and accredited by Jane Bee Safeguarding. This course is only available to Five supply staff.

Understanding ADHD; strategies and tools to use in an education setting.

This training is being run by Pippa Whittaker who has over 20 years’ experience as a SENDCo, Deputy Headteacher, and Assistant Headteacher in mainstream schools, special schools and resource bases. Pippa is currently the SENCo in a diverse secondary school in Bristol.

The training is aimed towards anyone working in education who want to have a better understanding of ADHD and learn techniques and strategies, to improve the learning and quality of life of children and young adults with ADHD. The training is for 90 mins including 30 mins optional questions.

This training is in person and from 8:45am to 4.15pm. Spaces are prioritised for candidates working in long term roles in SEND settings and primary 1:1.

A toolkit of holistic strategies on de-escalation and crisis intervention, both verbal and non-verbal for supporting and reducing instances of disruptive and distressed behaviours.

This course will equip individuals with an understanding of the values and philosophy of the Team Teach approach to behaviour support. We are motivated by the need to support the individual with the aim of keeping those who have become distressed safe, as well as those around them.

We believe that all behaviour is communication being driven by experiences and emotions. We deliver a toolkit approach that is 95% understanding behaviours and encouraging de-escalation. The 5% assesses the need for physical intervention in conjunction with a need’s analysis.

This training is being run by Lorraine Bamblett who is a Lecturer in Speech and Language Therapy at Keele University. She has been qualified as a SALT for 25 years and has worked in specialist and mainstream schools across the key stages. This training is for professionals working with children in education/care settings as well as candidates who are registered/looking to register with Five Education for supply work.

The training session will be led by Carolyn Williams, an experienced SENCO who works at a mainstream school in Bristol that has a specialist Autism Resource Base, bringing real-life insights and practical knowledge to the session. The training is aimed towards anyone working in education who want to have a better understanding of Autism and learn techniques and strategies to improve the learning and quality of life of children and young adults with Autism.

This training is aimed for our staff who are relatively new to working in educational settings and supporting SEND children. It will explain the logistics of a school day with Five Education and help you understand the different types of SEND we currently support. This training aims to give our new staff a supportive start in working with Five Education. The training is delivered by Karla Tondel our Candidate quality and engagement manager. Karla has worked within SEND education for 15 years and currently works within the child therapy field.

No need to book this training, your consultant will book you on this training after your interview. 
 

This training is being run by Karla Tondel who is our Candidate Quality and Engagement manager. Karla has many years of experience working within SEND Education and currently works as a Children's Therapist. Trauma is something that impacts many children and requires sensitivity, resiliance and compassion to understand and support. This training will help equip you with knowledge and skills to recognise Trauma. Karla will aim to begin teaching you how respond to traumatised children effectively, fostering safe and inclusive environments.
